Well, I've hopped back on the green smoothie train and I'm loving it. I started making them a couple summers ago and quit. I decided to add protein powder this time around to keep my blood sugar stable, and to just sneak in extra protein that I"m sure I need anyways.
There are tons of Green Smoothie recipes out there. You can google Green Smoothie or go on Youtube and watch videos. My favorite greens to use are Organic Kale, Organic Spinach, and Avocados. I like to put in frozen organic frozen strawberries and frozen bananas. If I put organic before the word, it means it's on the high pesticide list and that's why I buy it organic. I know it's more expensive, but to me it's worth it. Thankfully bananas and avocados aren't on the high pesticide list. I'd say one smoothie (And they're really really big)...costs maybe $3.50. If you skip the avocado then $3. Most people will spend that on milk with a shot of expresso, so it's really not bad for a meal. I look for sales and stock up when I see them. And remember you're just using a handful of the kale and spinach...so it all lasts and makes several smoothies. Use whatever greens you like. There are tons of combos you can use.
I'll have to say that I love my new Ninja Blender. My Hubby saved up for me to get a Vitamix and I just still couldn't drop $350 on a blender....a least yet. I know how wonderful they are and if you have one, that's awesome. I picked up the Ninja for $40 at Target and it's been awesome. We had a magic bullet and it didn't blend the frozen stuff or the greens very well. I'm very happy with my purchase of the Ninja.
So blend yourself up a green smoothie. Here's my current fave:
Handful of Kale stem removed
Handful of Spinach
1 tsp maca powder (I got it in the raw section of Whole Foods)
1 tbsp Flax seed meal
1 scoop of Whey Factors vanilla
3-4 frozen organic strawberries
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 avocado
Coconut Milk or Almond Milk for liquid (I use coconut water if I'm using it before or after working out)
and a little ice
Blend and enjoy. And this can definitely be used for a meal replacement. It's packed with nutrients and it has plenty of protein as well.

thanks so much. I cant wait to try this. We are new to IHOP. Moved here from Alabama. I wondered where you are getting your naturopath training and if you would recommend a physician who agrees with this stuff. I am a cancer survivor and really want a good one!!!
I am getting my degree through Clayton College of Natural Health. I don't know of any physicians...I haven't been to a doctor in probably close to 10 years (besides pregnancy stuff). You might look into the Kansas City Holistic Health Center. I believe they have a MD.
