Stress!
Stress!!! We all have it in varying degrees. Some of us are plagued with anxiety, some people get down and lose hope. One thing we know for sure is that stress is not good for us. It's hard on our heart, raises our blood pressure, compromises our immune system, and all around ages us inside and out.
There are a gazillion things you can take for stress. This is another reason why I'm so glad I worked in Health Food stores for years. You see what people come in again and again to buy something because it's working so well. The supplements range from mild to strong enough to possibly even make you a little sleepy. Sometimes you have to try a couple things to see works best for you and your body. Don't give up if one thing doesn't work. Listed below are some great things for stress. I'll give a short description of each. I'm listing them from mildest to strongest.
B Vitamins- If you're taking a good multi you should have enough. If not, you can buy B Stress combos which work well for some people.
Holy Basil- I'm taking this right now. You will feel a noticeable difference in your typical day to day stress level. You can drink the tea, or if you want more of a punch, take the capsules. Some days I have both:) Enzymatic Therapy makes the best Holy Basil pills. Source Naturals come in second.
Rhodiola- This does double duty. It decreases you stress level and increases your energy! Can't beat that!
Relora- This not only helps with stress, but stress eating!!
Rescue Remedy- This works amazing for some and not at all for others. You can even give it to children and pets. Great for trauma and works almost immediately because it's in an alcohol base and you put it under the tongue. It's all natural flower essences. Google it to find out more.
Kava Kava- Be careful with Kava, you can take to much of it... It's great for relaxation. There are kava bars in the island it originates from..meaning people drink it in a bar like they would beer. It's been compared to marijuanna without the trippy aspects of it, but it's similar in relaxation properties. Great for anxiety.
Valerian- An herb for the nerves. Some people take it for sleep. Others are so stressed, it helps with their anxiety.
L-theanine- An amino acid that increases dopamine and Gaba in the brain. It is said to be connected with brain waves associated with relaxation.
Gaba- It increases production of alpha brain waves to create a great sense of physical relaxation without decreasing focus.
I really like Theanine Serene by Source Naturals. It incorporates several of the things I have listed. There is also Theanine Serene with Relora for help with stress eating. It's not expensive at all!
And remember to keep you Vit D levels up. 35 IU per lb of body weight a day, unless you spend at least 20 min a day in the sun without sunscreen. D is closely related to mood.
