Clear and Healthy Skin
I feel like a bit of a hypocrite writing this because my skin has been less than it's best lately. All the ups and downs of being pregnant three times in the past 4 years has done a doozy on my hormones. Plus the fact that because I've been pregnant or breastfeeding I haven't been able to do any cleansing!! Cleansing and detoxes are really essential for clearing up your skin. Your skin is your largest eliminatory organ so if toxins can't be processed through your liver and out your bowel quickly enough, they'll find another way, via the skin.
So, on the subject of cleansing for good skin, I'll recommend a few for you to choose from. You always want to start with the colon and then move to the liver...or do one that cleans both simultaneously. Don't attempt to do a liver cleanse before a bowel cleanse...the results won't be good.
You could do the "Clean that colon for realz" cleanse I have posted here on my blog. This is a "No Food" cleanse, which sometimes is easier if you're working. Finding and preparing specific foods can get taxing. I also recommend the Fat Flush Plan or the Fast Track Detox Diet..both by Ann Louis Gittleman. You can get the books for pretty cheap on Amazon. I love Ann Louis's approach to balancing the whole system (hormones, liver, colon,) in order to get the best results possible. The Fast Track is a 8 day detox and the Fat flush is a 2 week. You'll be amazed by the result with any of these cleanses.
Another great thing I've gone without for months and finally bought again is Reviva Labs Glycolic Acid 10% cream. AMAZING stuff. I was using Retin A for my blackheads until I got pregnant and read it was pretty dangerous stuff. What Retin A does is eat off the top layer of skin. That's what blackheads are... they're not dirt, but skin that didn't slough off like it should have and the skin cells clog the pore. I switched to the Glycolic cream and have gotten the same results as retin A! The jar is around $20 and lasts 6+ months. Don't use it on skin with regular pimples because it will irritate and burn them. You could just try and apply around them if you don't have but a few. It's great for wrinkles as well. Since it's eating off that top layer, you'll produce more collagen and you're wrinkle won't be as deep! It also lightens sunspots.
Some supplements that I've found work great for skin are Evening Primrose or Borage oil (these help with moisture and elasticity and breakouts from PMS and hormones) and Solaray's Skin Blend SP-4. The Skin Blend is an herbal blend of blood, liver, and skin cleansing herbs. It works great if you feel like you are detoxing through your skin. There are other things out there that work for the skin, I just like recommending the ones that have helped me personally or people I know.
I've mentioned this before, but I really like the line of skincare called Mychelle. Dr. Haushka is good too, but ultra expensive.
Oh...and let your skin get some sun! Vit D does wonders! Also infared light is the newest thing for collagen production and skin renewal. There are spas around with infared saunas and now some tanning beds are incorporating the red bulbs.
