Make your own Deodorant

I get so excited when I find something that you can make for cheap, that's natural, and it really works. I've been using natural deodorant for close to 10 years. First it was out of sheer pain. Regular deodorant was causing me to breakout in welts. I didn't even know about the dangers of aluminum at that point. Most natural deodorants didn't work for me. I finally found Alvera Aloe and Herb and Alvera Almond. I have been using them for years, but I have to reapply for it to keep working. It also isn't an antiperspirant so I was always self conscience when it was really hot out that I'd soak my sleeves.
When I saw this recipe for homemade natural deodorant I had to try it. I tweaked it a little, cause well... that's what I do. I had all the ingredients on hand already. If you still have your old deodorant stick, just screw it back down to the bottom and fill it with this. If not, you can just apply it with your fingers. It only takes a thin layer and if you add antibacterial essential oils, it'll last all day. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that once applied, it's clear and isn't white or chalky! If you're not using natural deodorant already, it may take a week or two for your body to adjust...just FYI. The total cost to make this batch is probably only about $1.50!!

1/4 Cup Baking Soda (I use Bob's Red Mill Aluminum free, not pictured)

1/4 Cup Arrowroot Powder (Some people like to use cornstarch, but corn has so many pesticides and can encourage candida so I passed on it)

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

10+ drops of essential oil (Some antibacterial ones are Tea Tree, Lavender, Thyme, Myrrh, Lemon, Grapefruit, Peppermint) (I used lemon, peppermint and myrrh)

Mix it all together. You can add more or less to get the consistency you like:)

Hello, Amanda. Found your blog while surfing around a bit on others and I love the things you post here. Quick question. My husband tends to have a rough time sleeping and was wondering if you have any knowledge of herbal/natural and non-addicting sleep aids. For over 2 years he worked the graveyard shift and now that he doesn't his body is just nutsy at night. Whatever you can offer, I'd appreciate. Thanks. I'll check back here. :)

Hello Jennifer.

Unfortunately they discontinued what I found to be the best natural sleep aid on the market. I would say the next best thing would be Source Naturals Night Rest with Melatonin. Hope this works for him:)
