With the Flu season right around the corner, I thought I'd list some things I like and use for prevention and treatment of the flu. Realize you may have to spend around $50+ a month on supplements for prevention, but think how much money you'll save by not missing work and not having to go to the Doc! It's totally worth it. Oct-Feb are the months that you want to focus on increasing your immune system. You wouldn't necessarily need to take these year round unless your immune system is running on the low side for some reason.
I don't take all of these at once, but I'll pick and choose a couple and sometimes switch it up the next month.
New Chapter Life Shield Immunity- a blend of mushrooms for deep immune support.
New Chapter Supercritical Sinus and Respiratory- Great for treating and preventing sinus infections, colds, and the flu. Packed full of herbs like garlic, oregano, echinacea, and elderberry.
New Chapter Immunity Take Care- Elderberry lozenges perfect for kids or those pregnant or nursing. New chapter uses a patented process to insure the quality and strength of the elderberry.
Cold Snap- A blend of Chinese herbs formulated to be taken when the weather suddenly changes and therefore sickness starts to flourish. Great for respiratory issues and colds.
Oregano oil- A powerful natural anti-parasitic anti-viral anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial. I've had luck with the cheaper kind like Solaray, but have been purchasing the North American Herb and Spice which is the best and most powerful. They make a plethora of Oregano products including a new nasal spray!
Vit C- Ester C and Ascorbyl Palmitate are my favorite forms. Ester C is great to use for the Vit C flush where you take 1000 mg every 30 minutes until your bowels move and then 1000 mg every 4 hours after than. You can do this upon feeling the beginnings of sickness and it can stop it from multiplying. I'm using Ascorbyl Palmitate right now because it's fat soluble so it stays in your system longer.
Honey Gardens Elderberry- A blend of raw honey, propolis, elderberry and apple cider vinegar. Great for kids and pregnant and nursing moms. Elderberry is a powerful antiviral. You can also dilute it with water and call it "juice" and get your children to drink it. I took this every hour last time I was sick. It's something you don't have to worry about ODing on because it's food.
Bee Propolis- Powerful Immune Booster and Antioxidant. Good for kids too. Try and hide it in their food because it can be quite bitter.
The Master Tonic- Refer to my blog post about it. Make yours immediately because it take 3 weeks until it's ready! Gargle a tsp and swallow every day!
Vitamin D- At least 35 IU per pound of body weight a day. Increase dosage if you're sick! I triple or quadruple dosage when I'm sick. I do that for 3-5 days.
Emergen-C- This is my kids "juice". They get a half of a pouch a day, and a full pouch if they become sick.
I could keep adding to this list, but these are my favorites.
Don't forget to keep taking your multi, fish oil, and probiotics daily. These are foundational supplements and should be always taken! Also, stress greatly effects your immune system so try and keep your stress levels down. Refer to my old blog post to see some great things to take for stress as well!
