Alligator got your skin??
Second to seasonal affective disorder, dry skin is my biggest complaint during the winter months. I've had several people ask me how to combat it, so here's my recommendations.
1. Buy a Humidifier!! Not just one either. One isn't going to make a dent unless you live in a tiny apartment. We have 4 humidifiers that we've collected through the years. We have one in each bedroom and one in our living area. This will help with not only your skin, but a dry scratchy throat and chapped lips. And of course it's a must for the cold or flu. Be sure and change your filter as needed and clean it every few days. I run a little hydrogen peroxide through mine to kill any germs. I'm a big fan of the warm mist ones because most of them kill bacteria. Drs. quit recommended them because they are hot to the touch and can burn if kiddos decide to touch them. So please use caution.
2. Switch from lotion to pure coconut oil. I use it on my body and I rub my kiddos down with it. You can feed it to them while you're rubbing them down:) And yes, you eat it too!! It won't make you fat, I promise. It actually burns fat. Read my previous article.
3. Dry brush your skin daily. This will slough off your old dry skin. Read my previous post about it's many benefits.
4. Eat more fat!!! Good fat that is. Raw milk, raw butter, avocados, cold pressed olive oil (1tbsp a day or more), coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut butter, and grapeseed oil.
5. Primrose and borage oils are rich in GLA which are nourishing for the skin. Take 4 capsules daily for extra dry skin. You can also double up on your fish oil. Your brain and heart will thank you too:)
6. Skinfood by Weleda is a great moisturizer for the winter months. A little goes a long way. It's great for baby's chapped cheeks, dry elbows, or for a dry tight face. It's become a skincare staple in our home.
Hope this helps! I just discovered I now live in the 8th coldest city in the USA, but alas, my skin is not dry. It works!
